Life Drawing - Set No. 13

Life Drawing - Set No. 13
For this session we focused mainly on our use of form and structure of the body, instead if my usual mark making approach I tried at some more freer pieces, experimenting with line and how I could use this to highlight form and shape.

Over the Road - Character concepts

Over the Road - Character concepts
Another aspect of my digital animation practice module also involved helping out on third year productions, for this production Over the Road, I was asked to produce some character concepts. After doing some artist research I created these stylized pieces, I found working in this style a refreshing change and very enjoyable.

11 Second Club - Rough animation

11 Second Club - Rough animation
After deciding on the character designs I then produced a series of thumbnails to help block out the story and movement, this was then used to help rough out the right animation and later to aid the clean up. The animation produced was not as smooth as I would have liked and over busy in parts, In time this will be corrected and finally coloured to produce the final piece.

Life Drawing - Set No. 12

Life Drawing - Set No. 12
Like the previous session we focused on our use of portraiture and structure in the head. This time around I felt more confident in using shapes to help me draw and was able to to produce a few pieces I was very pleased with, although some more work would be needed.

Dino Diner - Character concepts

Dino Diner - Character concepts
As well as other third year productions I began work on another project Dino Diner. This project required a number of character concepts for a crowd scene, this again introduced working in another style and was another aspect I was keen to work on. I produced eleven character concepts that I would then go on to digitize for production.

Life Drawing - Set No. 11

Life Drawing - Set No. 11
For this set of life drawing pieces, we focused on our portraiture skills and how best to construct the face. We began by doing a lot of simple sketches, using shapes to help us understand what made up the face, to start with I found this a struggle as I prefer to draw spontaneously rather then planning it out, but as the session went of I began to find it useful and it helped me focus more on my proportions and structure.

11 second club - Character design

11 second club - Character design
As part of our digital animation practice module we were to take part in the monthly 11 second club competition, where you are given an 11 second audio clip and asked to animate to it. Halloween was Octobers theme with an audio clip from the film 'What do we do in the shadows'. Before I started animating I looked at character concepts, I started by doing a series of basic sketches to help develop my ideas and then more developed  character designs after the original ideas were decided on

Pre-Production - Location research

Pre-Production - Location research
To continue the research for my pre-production project, I began to collect images to do with my three cards. Especially looking closely at locations and how this could later be used in my chosen style. I made sure to look at both electronic and printed sources to gather an understanding of my concept. From these images I produced a number of drawing and sketches looking closely at shapes and forms and how these could be later used for characters and backgrounds.

No looking, form study

Life Drawing Set No.10
For this set of life drawing pieces, I wanted to take a closer look at the form and flow of the body. To do this I produced of tonal and constructive studies, looking at the way I could use line to highlight certain areas of the body, especially when studying movement and creating action lines.
