Weekly Brief - Object of the day

Weekly Brief - Object of the day
"Choose an object from the list: Tree/bush, Car, Fabric, Hands/feet, Food, Vessel, object of your own choosing, each day draw a different object" Pencil/ Pen on paper.
For this task I wanted to practice my observational skills, simply drawing what I saw in front of me. This was of working was simple, but fundamental and one I was pleased with.

Weekly Brief - Toy Story

Weekly Brief - Toy Story
"Find a Toy, draw the toy all week in different locations, give your toy a week of adventures"
Pencil and markers on paper. For this brief we had to find a toy and create a series of draws that told a story, I choose to experiment with angle and  location, paying close attention to scale and placement of characters in the frame. More detail would be useful but over all they turned out well.

Squirrel - Pencil animation

Squirrel - Pencil animation
30 frame animation, pencil on paper. For this brief we were tasked with animating a squirrel moving from one side of the screen to the next, with the minimum of two bounces. I made sure to focus my attention on my use of 'Squash and Stretch' techniques, as well as the arc of movement and looking at how I could add life to my character. Some work on character life could be useful ,but otherwise I  was very pleased with the results.

Head turns and Toe touching - Stop motion

Head Turn - Stop motion animation
Touching toes - Stop motion animation.
Building upon our previous stop motion tasks we were asked to animate a puppet, turning it's head and touching it's toes. Using the pendulum swing to help we understand timings, and the mechanical swing to help me understand range of movement, which parts move first and how far they can go. Keeping these in mind the brief provided to be an interesting one, that helped me develop my understanding of  character movement.

Weight Lift-Flash animation

Weight Lift-Flash animation
Within this brief we were asked to animate a character lifting an object, focusing on the movement of  weight and mass. Although I think I made it a little too long, I was very pleased with the outcome and my developed understanding of character animation.

Weekly Brief - Strangers in the day

Weekly Brief - Strangers in the day
"Find a stranger. Ask him/her what to draw that day."
With this task I wanted to try something a little different, taking peoples suggestions loosely and exploring character design, this provided to be greatly enjoyable.

Pendulum/Mechanical swing and Balloon fall - Stop motion animation

Mechanical Swing
Pendulum Swing
Balloon Fall
For our first stop motion task we were asked to animate a mechanical , pendulum swing and a balloon falling. These tasks allowed us to work on our understanding of timings and how different things move at different rates, for example a mechanical swing has a far shorter range of motion then that of a pendulum, and the spacing between each frame is regular, but a pendulum speeds up at the bottom of its arc. These principles would later be used ad building blocks and allow us to move onto more advanced motions.

Hand Turn- Toon Boom animation

Hand Turn- Toon Boom animation
Within this brief we were to animate a simplistic had turning over, paying close attention to speed and volumes. Timings came easily to me, but volumes provided harder, insuring a volume stays the same from frame to frame was a challenge. This was solved by simply slowing down and referencing back to the first frame, once this had been rectified I was happy with my end piece.

Weekly Brief - Off the Scale

Off the Scale
"Create concept drawings in which your character(s) are out of scale with their environment."
Pencil on paper. For this brief we had to take objects and characters and draw them out of place, I really enjoyed the freedom of this brief and its experimental nature provided interesting.

Bouncing Ball - Maya animation

Bouncing Ball - Maya animation
This brief was similar to my previous bouncing ball animations, however this time we had to use our understanding of squash and stretch to animate a more believable ball bounce. Using the 3D software proved to me a challenge at first, but once I gained a basic understanding I was able to produce something I was pleased with.

Life Drawing Set No.2 (Dramatic poses)

Life Drawing Set No.2 (Dramatic poses)
Charcoal on paper.
Within this set we were asked to do a series of tasks, from pose to pose to blind drawings. All illustrated an interesting ways of working, allowing me to experiment with my use of line.

Life Drawing Set No.1

Life Drawing Set No.1
Chalk and Charcoal on black paper/ Chalk on mid tone paper.
For this first set of drawings, I focused on my use of light and shadow, using the tones paper to aid me. I also experimented with more fluid lines to make my poses feel more natural, I was happy with the result.

Jumping Man - Flash Animation

Jumping Man- Flash animation
For this task we were to animate a man jumping, using basic shapes and movements, paying particular attention to our use of squash and stretch. For this I focused on my use of curves and exaggerated movements, although I think it was slightly over worked, the end result was a success.

Weekly Brief - From the real to the surreal

From the real to the surreal
"Take an everyday object, give it a twist of the surreal." For this brief I wanted to try something and little different and choose to look at character design. So I took everyday object and assembled my own little object creatures.

Weekly Brief - Anachronistic Artwork

Anachronistic Artwork
"choose an outdated method of producing artwork", for this brief we needed to look at different styles of artwork, I choose to explore my use of media was well, from impressionist oil pastels to illustrative watercolours. I really enjoyed getting the chance to play with different media's and I think it provided successful.
