Weekly Brief - Object of the day #2

Weekly Brief - Object of the day #2
As with the precious brief I choose to redo one of the tasks, choosing a different selection of objects this time but still focusing on my use of form and shapes, with quick mark making.

Weekly Brief - From the real to the surreal #2

Weekly Brief - From the real to the surreal #2
"Take an everyday object, give it a twist of the surreal."
As I enjoyed this brief so much I decided to give it another go, and incorporate a technique I enjoyed from another brief to create a series of surreal illustrations.

Ranger Rick’s Adventures: The Spirit Bear - Storyboard

Ranger Rick’s Adventures:  The Spirit Bear - Storyboard
Following the character designs, it was time to produce the actual storyboard. Paying close attention to the provided script in order to understand where the characters were and how they occupied the frame, I was very pleased with the finished results.

Life Drawing Set No.4

Tonal studies

Blind drawings

Left Hand drawing

Drawing without the model

Life Drawing Set No.4
Charcoal,Chalk and pencil on news print.
For our fourth set of life drawings, we focused on our use of tones, producing a range of  images using charcoal and then working into these pieces using rubbers to draw out the lighter areas of the model. This was an interesting way to work, in future whoever I need to let the tones do the work rather then paying too much attention to my detailed mark  making.

Ranger Rick’s Adventures: The Spirit Bear - Character designs

Ranger Rick’s Adventures:  The Spirit Bear - Character designs
Using an already exciting script we were asked to produce a detailed storyboard. But before this could be attempted, character designs were needed,  using photos for reference I produced a range of designs for the four main characters.

Yawn - Maya animation

Yawn - Maya animation
For this brief, we were given a rig to work with and asked to animate it yawning. Close attention was needed in order to understand which areas of the body would move and how far, precious skills on timing and motion arcs were also used, I think it turned out successful, if a little rigid.

Smoke - Toon Boom Animation

Smoke - Toon Boom Animation
For this assignment we looked at out use of cycles and animated elements, looking specifically at smoke, paying close attention to the curved movement and how air currents effect this. I was pleased with the outcome, although I think a more exaggerated arc would have made for a better animation.

Weekly Brief - Badly Drawn Boy

Weekly Brief -  Badly Drawn Boy
"Each day think of a new song or piece of music that you like. Draw anything that the song inspires you to draw." For this brief I decided I wanted to try something a little surreal, exploring a mixture of forms and colours, I was very pleased with the results.

Eden project - sketch studies
On a group trip to the Eden project (Cornwall), I produced  number of drawing studies, looking closely at form and shape of natural objects and sculptures.
